Ground around roses

Maria Mcwalter asked 15 years ago

I am new to gardening and have beautiful rosebushes in the garden of the house we bought recently. My question is : I have planted some ground cover plants such as geraniums and they are starting to cover the base of the rosebushes. is that Ok or do I need to leave a certain perimeter free of any plants Hope this makes sense.

Planting anything around the root area of rose can reduce their growth to some small degree but it can be done. Make sure to feed the roses with Rose food in spring and July to keep them going. The other plants will get some of this but the roses will too.
