What is ideal soil pH range for growing Orange Trees? I have about twenty seedlings ready for pricking out and I want to use the optimum potting medium.

Oranges and other citrus need pH 5 – 6, which is acidic soil, and they like some mineral soil, peat-based compost tending to be a little too moist for them. The ideal would be a well-drained mix of 3 parts soil,1 part coarse sand and one part compost.

For plant raising, a lime-free compost would do for the time being.

Orange trees are much less hardy than lemons and very likely to die outdoors from frost.
