Growing Dianthus from seed

Stan Dunne asked 14 years ago

It is early October and I have germinated Dianthus seeds indoors on a window sill. Should I keep the seedlings indoors over the winter or can I put them outside?

There are different kinds of dianthus … biennial kinds and perennial kinds, among the latter garden pinks and alpine dianthus. Prick out the seedlings into cell trays or small pots and keep them on a window sill or in a greenhouse.

They are hardy and can be placed outdoors when they have become established in the cell tray or pots.
