Heuchera ‘Caramel’

Roisin Cahill asked 16 years ago

I have a few varieties of heuchera, ‘palace purple’, ‘creme brulee’ etc all doing very well, but ‘Caramel’ doesnt seem to thrive, the outer leaves die off and the plant is not vigorous. Is something wrong or is it the variety?

Heuchera ‘Caramel’ is a very pretty pale toffee brown colour. It has less green chlorophyll in its leaves and therefore lacks vigour.

For the same reason, it has a tendency to scorch in direct sunshine. Partial, perhaps afternoon, sunshine would suit it better.

It also probably need a bit more warmth than an Irish summer typically provides to compensate for lack of vigour.
