Holly JC van tol

Yvonne Hilliard asked 9 years ago

We have a holly JC in our garden for the past 5 years (see photo). The bulk of branches are low to the ground and more sparse mid and top of the shrub. The leaves are also being eaten by pests. Is it too late for me to prune the lower branches and any ideas on pest control. There are pieces of leaves missing as a clue.

The hoilly ‘JC Van Tol’ can be a bit loose in habit. Prune to shape and feed in spring each year with some tree and shrubs fertilizer. The damage to leaves is snails feeding, which is no great harm if the tree is growing well.
