Is my lavander plant dead?

katie murphy asked 14 years ago

I’m a total beginner when it comes to gardening. I planted a lavander shrub last summer and it now looks dead. i have been feeding it for the past few weeks but still no sign of any life, no new shoots just totally brown. Does this plant die back in the winter and come back or should i just dig it up and get rid of it Many Thanks Katie

Lavender can die off in winter due to overly wet soil and some kinds are not completely hardy and may have been killed by frost.

If there is no sign of any new growth by the end of April, it has died. Plant only in well-drained soil in sunshine.
