lavender border

john cahill asked 15 years ago
I have an “S” shape border of lavender in my front garden. It is 4 years old and looking tatty and going black at the roots. Should I lift it? If so what will I replace it with. I have approx. 30 plants.

Lavender tends to be short-lived and gets tired under constant clipping. Box is probably the best bet for longer term, but can have problems too.

Other things you could try would be santolina, purple sage or cistus, but all are not long-lived and all need open soil.
