Lopsided tree

Elaine Williams asked 14 years ago
I recently purchased a white birch which is leaning over at the top quite badly. Is there anything I can do to straighten it upright? I have considered staking it but am afraid of damaging it. It is approx 8ft tall.

There are weeping forms that lean over at the top and it might be one of those, It is possibly a bit short of water as it has been very dry.

Otherwise it is likely to straighten up as it grows. You could tie in a long bamboo, tying it to the thicker lower part first, and tying this to a stakeif necessary, and this can be removed after a couple of years.
