Maple tree possible fungus

Bridget Suttle asked 14 years ago

I have just noticed a type of fungus on my maple tree that is planted in a 15 inch pot (measured across the top). there is a little brown scab on the trunk and when you scratch it white sticky fungus appears. The tree is aprox 3 foot 8 inches tall and is 2 years old (purchased at Bloom). I lost a similar tree recently with no noticable disease and would be keen that this one survives. I would appreciate any advice Thanks

This is chestnut scale and can weaken the trees and cause dieback. Common on maples and lime trees.

It is a sap sucking pest and can be sprayed with a systemic insecticide.
