mould on beans

Hi Jerry, Can you advise about bean seeds grown in seed trays which are now showing nothing only mould we used growing compound and followed instructions. Thank you Trish

It is not uncommon for broad bean seeds to become mouldy on the seed coat during germination, but if not shoots appear, the beans have rotted. This might be due to the compost being too wet, but it might also be due to the seed beign dead to start with.

If you have any seeds left, place them on damp tissue paper in a clean glass jar with plenty of holes in the lid. If they do not sprout, the seeds are dead.
