Moving Lonicera nitida

Noreen Ahern asked 14 years ago

I have to remove Lonicera nitida ‘Bagessen’s Gold’ as we are building an extension to our house. It has been planted in this spot for 9 years and was in a pot for about 3 yrs before that. Do you think it would transplant well or is it too mature? Would it be deep-rooted? It is about 1.5m wide and 2m high.

It is quite a large plant, but lonicera moves very well and if you can manage its size, it will move in October or March. You will need to take a root ball close to the same diameter as the plant itself in size.

Also watch that it is not being wind-rocked when moved and prop it up temporarily if it is and watch for drought for twelve months.
