Non fruiting damson tree

Mary Ryan asked 13 years ago

About 10 years ago I took a slip from a profuse fruiting damson tree in Nenagh. I now have a mature shrub in with no fruit. Not sure whether it flowered but if it did the birds or something got then. I have a conference pear tree in the vicinity which fruits – Does it need cross fertilisation?

Damson can take years to fruit when it gets large, and birds can take the fruit without your noticing. It does not need a pollinator as it is self-fertile.

Pruning it will further put off fruiting.1
