After this hard winter all of our 18 year old Olearialook dead no foliage at all. Will these recover or is it a case of removing all of them.If I cut them down what do you suggest as Regards the stumps as they are large. What would you suggest as a replacement as they lined our drive up to the house and provided shelter.

Olearia not showing any growth at this stage is probably dead. If the bark is lifting off at ground level, this is definitely the case.

The dead trees can be cut at ground level and the roots left to rot.

It is probably best not to line a whole avenue but to leave some opening and use a variety of trees or large shrubs. There is a wide choice, depending on space and your preference.
