Hi Gerry, I am about to purchase and plant trees in my new garden (approx 1 acre). It is my intention to plant Mountain Ash along the drive, and some other ornamental trees along the perimiter e.g., Cherries and Silver Birch (White Bark) etc. My question is how far apart should I plant these trees?

If you are planting avenue trees, they can be spaced between ten and twenty metres, depending on the length of the drive and its width.
If you are planting garden woodland, work out the numbers of trees required by allowing one tree per four square metres but do not plant at regular spacing or in rows. Randomize the planting to use one tree per 4 square metres, some closer, some further apart. For this kind of planting, use inexpensive whips, either bare-root or potted.
