Prospect of moving before next spring, can i now divide sweet william and snapdragon and such and keep in pots for the move? they still are in flower.can most garden perennials be divided now?i had a present of a red currant bush last spring, can i cut it to base when leaves are gone?How does a beginner know which plants should be protected from frost?

Sweet william and snapdragon are short-lived perennials and hardly worth the trouble as they often do not recover from a move. But other perennials can be lifted and potted from the end of September.
A red currant bush should not be cut to the base as it fruits on old wood, but cna be cut back part of the way.
Most plants are fine with frost and you live in south Dublin which is quite mild. Winter 2009/2010 was an exception.
