Preserving timber fence

Any suggestions for climbers against timber fences which may be grown / taken down while preserving fences? We would also have to grow these in containers.

Any climber that does not creep by means of aerial roots, such as ivy, or by sucker pads such as Virginia creeper, can be taken down …. if it has not been allowed to grow through the fence.

If you set up trellis as a support and tie the climber in, then it will be easier to take down, otherwise it will have to grip the fence timbers, growing through gaps, for instance.

Climbers are not successful long-term in containers as the root space is too restricted. It there is concrete or tarmac in the way, holes can be cut … this also saves the work of watering.
