Problem growing bambou sacre

Barbara Drewett asked 16 years ago
I have a bambou sacre, it is in the garden over a year and the leaves keep growing and its flowering but the leaves then turn brown at the tip and fall off. It is bare except for the new leaves.I cant see any insect on it and its in a sunny location.

The sacred bamboo, which is not really a bamboo at all but a relative of the berberis family, is Nandina domestica. While it is marginally hardy it suffers from exposure to wind and sunshine.

It likes a position of good shelter with some sunshine during the day but not a hot position. It likes the soil to be fairly fertile and well-drained but not likely to dry out in summer.

Try your plant in a different position, moving it in autumn.
