HI Gerry, I have one of the above house plants (parlour palm) which I bought before Christmas in Tesco’s. It sits in my sitting room facing the window and near the radiator. It has started to turn brown at the tips and occasionally I have dead leaves on a full branch which I have cut off. But this is taking away the density of the plant. I watered it once a month through the winter and didnt let it dry out. I also fed it occasionally. Where am I going wrong. Im an absolute beginner here and really need your help. I hope you can help me. Regards Jackie Kennedy.

The yellow palm or areca palm is a durable house plant in a warm place, in bright light but not direct sunlight, a t least not at midday.

It is too close to the radiator and perhaps getting direct sunlight too. This is drying out the leaves. It needs more humidity in the air, but mostly to be away from the heater. You can remove any dry and withered leaves. Keep it moist from April to September inclusive, on the dry side, but not bone-dry in winter. Feed once a month April to September.
