This appears to be a bad Summer for Pollination of Fruit trees in the West of Ireland. Can you give me some ‘specific advise’ about the pruning of young Fruit trees. The trees are only in their second year from the Garden Center and are Apple and Plum.

Fruit set appears to be quite poor in most areas this year.

Young apple trees need little pruning except to improve shape if there is a branch going off at an angle or a couple of branches very close and crowding each other.

The plum tree should have long whippy branches shortened to about one third during July or August.

Remove low branches as the top develops.
