When bulbs are grown in pots and removed in the summer can they be repotted for a second year?

When bulbs have been flowered once in a pot, they rarely build up the energy to flower again in the following years as they are limited by the volume of compost in the pot.

Instead, plant them out in a border and let them take their chances.
