something eating my roses

I noticed something is eating my roses and also i have escollonia goldbrian that it eating also it takes bites out of leaves like a half moon a complete bite i have tried spray for blackspot etc and slug pellets it dont seem to work help?

The most likely culprit that takes pieces out of leaves is snails, but it is possible that leaf-cutter bees are responsible. These cut half-moon shapes out of rose leaves and other ornamental shrubs.

They use the leaf pieces for their nests where single eggs are laid.

The level of damage to the donor shrub is slight and of little significance,
