Most varieties of apple and pear trees are susceptible to apple and pear scab diseases. If your trees had scabby fruit and the leaves were blackened with fungus, and dropped off early, last year, they are susceptible and need to be sprayed, starting in April and continuing into June or even July in a wet summer.

You can spray with a fungicide containing the active ingredient myclobutanil, or use captan. Any garden centre would have some of these.

Do not spray when the blossoms are open as some products can affect bees and other pollinators.
