sweet pea

Leo Archer asked 13 years ago

I have grown sweet pea from seed, in pots, in the cold greenhouse over the winter. I have some healthy looking plants. When should I plant them outside? How should I prepare the soil?

Sweet peas are hardy but tend to be soft when coming out of a greenhouse and must be hardened off by being brought outdoors by day and put in at night for a week or more. You will see them toughen up, but make sure they are supported if they are lanky. They can be planted out in early April in a spell of good weather and watch for snails.

Prepare the soil by digging in lots of organic material and choose a sunny, sheltered spot.
