tiny black worms

Linda Cohu asked 15 years ago

Our garden is recently becoming infested with clusters of tiny, slim black worms (12mm max) feeding on tunnel strawberries, fallen apples, tunnel and outside lettuces – any soft fruit/vegetable in contact with ground. Are these a kind of eelworm and how can they be controlled.

These are not eelworms which are mostly microscopic or barely visible with the human eye. They are probably young millipedes, which often feed on fruit. Not much can be done, or shoould be done, as they will disperse when the food source is depleted. Removing spoiled fruit will make the area less attractive to them.
