What do you think are the tastiest tomatoes? Ive grown shirley this year and am disappointed with the taste.

Tomato flavour is very subjective, ‘Shirley’ is rather balnd but some people like a light taste. Some kinds are sweet and others more acidic.

Tomatoes grown outdoors generally have better flavour as they develop more slowly and are more acidic. Texture is important too, cherry tomatoes tend to be juicy while the beefsteaks have more flesh. The best thing is to read the descriptions carefully and then try some likely kinds.

An old variety, renowned for excellent flavour is ‘Ailsa Craig’ which can be grown indoor or outdoors.
