I would like to plant a Cherry Blossom Tree in my small front garden as a specimen tree. I favour a white flower with luscious green foliage. What would you recommend? Are they very slow growing – should I consider buying a 15 year-old tree?

A cherry is too big for a small front garden as it will fill it, but if you wish, one of the best is the lovely Yoshino cherry, Prunus yedoensis, pale pink buds open to white, and scented.

This is not slow-growing but you can buy a well-grown plant if you wish. Garden centres do not usually stock these but they can order.
