Wild Grass

Martin Cremin asked 14 years ago

Can you recommend any types of wild long grasses to can be set on a south facing bank. I am thinking of a natural looking grass as the garden/bank is located in the countryside next to woodland/ meadows and would like the grass to look like blending into the local vegeatation.

If you want a bank to look natural as possible, just allow it to ‘tumble-down’ ….that is, allow the natural vegetation to sprout by itself from the seeds in the soil, and trim it with a brushwood cutter a couple of time a year.

Or you could plant woodrush and sedges and perhaps a few primroses, cow parsley and the like, but first see what comes up naturally.
