Hello, I'm having terrible problems with white fly on my window sill herbs. I've lost my basil, and the sage seems to be heading the same direction. It's started on the mint now too. I sprayed the basil with Bug Clear Fruit and Veg - as recommended to me in the garden centre, but that seemed to do even more damage from which my tender basil never recovered. I didn't want to use the same spray on the others and have been trying to remove the flies when i see them, but they just keep coming back for more. Does anyone have any home remedies or the name of a good product for getting rid of the flies on the herbs, I guess it would have to be a fairly delicate product. Thanks for your help, Onion.

Hi,
I have never had luck with basil although I'm told that if started from seed in the garden it will live. I've bought small basil plants and tried them both inside on window sill and outside in garden but they turn black and die. Otherwise, I have great success with parsley (both kinds) and chives which are easy to grow. I planted fennel last year and it did well except that while it looked good, I don't know what to do with it (eating-wise). I also planted a lovage plant and chopped the leaves up in salads and soups but everyone seemed to get 'the runs' from it. I just finished cleaning up the herb patch and am wondering what else I could plant. I love the taste and smell of basil but as I say, it always turns black -- any suggestions? This will be my second season of an herb garden and since I grew up in NYC I don't have much experience.
