Does anyone know where I can get large quantities of compost, such as the compost from  fingals brown bin collections. background

Check your local co. council. We got some free of charge last autumn from our local recycling centre. There was a big pile of it in a compound and you could just go in and help yourself. But when it was gone, it was gone Apparently the mulching units are so expensive that they have to be shared, and so are moved from place to place. Hope it comes back our way soon, as it was lovely stuff. background

Thanks for that Deborah, but I had been on to Fingal County council several times and they (apparently) can't tell me where they compost the waste from the brown bin collection.  background
