New potatoes for Christmas? Expand / Collapse

I want to put down potatoes to be ready for Christmas. I plan to sow some in a bed of tyres. I am told that a good base of fresh horse manure will generate heat. However questions remain.

When should I sow?

What type of seed?

How/where do I get seed?

If I get seed now, how do I stop it growing until planting time.

Any suggestions will be a great help. Pat. background

I have never grown potatoes for christmas, but a few of the gardeners on the site has. If you contact Plotmanjohn or Chillipepper they will give you all the advice you need or if you have the time read thru their journals from the back end of last year. background
