Pear Slugs Expand / Collapse

My hawthorns, cherries and pear trees are infested with pear slug. I'm keen to keep my garden as organic as possible but there are too many trees to hand squish the slugs, unfortunately. I have heard hessian wrapped around the trunk and sprayed with pyrethum works but I was wondering how that might impact my trees. I would be really grateful for any suggestions or ideas. background
