I have 2 lilac tree's in pots, that need to be planted out, i would like to put them in the front garden, but i don't know where. Is it safe to plant them near the house or by a wall? or will they cause structural problems?

when you say lilac trees I assume you mean Syringa (normally vulgaris) either white or some form of purple flowers in may. If so then in truth these can be large shrubs to samll tree in time they get quite tall but you can cut them abck if needed. I had one near the house on my old house and they should'nt cause structural problems they may however outgrow a space in time and create shade. But used as a small tree there lovely (if a little short flowering) I don't think they should create problems I always think a plant like that needs to be in the ground rather than a pot, if it does create problems in 10 years it can be cut down but you'll get agreat ten years out of it. Good Luck
