Can anyone tell me where I might buy a cold frame in the Dublin area

You can buy cold frames from Mr Middleton Garen Shop in Mary Street at www.mrmiddleton.ie or call them at 01 8731118 but they don't look difficult to make if you are any way handy. They seem to be basically a box with a lid of glass or clear plastic that you can prop open. You could probably google making a coldframe and get oodles of plans and ideas. I am sure there are diagrams for making them in 'Small Space Big Harvest' by Duane Newcomb and also possibly in Mel Bartholemew's 'Square Foot Gardening'. Best of luck.

hi, my handy husband made me a portable one! it is made out of diamond board, a kind of composite thick board, with a hinged lid of corrugated clear plastic. It is about 6ft x 2ft x 1ft high, and he put wheels on it, so during the winter, it is towed out of sight. Very ingenious and cheap, kind of like a mobile coffin to look at!

when there used to be local auctions, i bought an old window...put it on top of bales of straw which were just around the edge of the window and planked it against a warm wall...worked a treat as i could control the ventilation on the window itself...till my boys discovered hurling that is!!!!
