Bandywine tomatoes

Technically maybe this should be in the fruit section! I have seedlings of brandywine tomatoes growing well but am wondering what to do next. Can anyone tell me if they can be grown outside or if its better to keep them undercover?

Hi Drumanagh,

I'm growing Brandywines too, but they're definately going outside, as I don't have anywhere to grow them under glass. I've been reading up about them, and apparently, if you put them somewhere sunny out of the wind they should do ok. At least I hope so! They're also supposed to taste miles better with real sun exposure...

Thanks for that - I didn't see your reply for a while as I forgot to sign up to the notification thing! I have the tomatoes in a plastic green house at the moment but will plant them out in a week or so - here in the midlands I have had a few disasters planting out too soon. I'm growing legend, Tumbler, Dzintare Lasite and black russian. I haven't had much success with tomatoes before without a glass house but maybe this year will be different!

A few people in our allotments planted tomatoes outside this year - some ripened but as many didn't. I have some in a greenhouse and thet're still as green as grasshoppers!
