Mini Japanese maple plant drying up overnight... Expand / Collapse

I have recently bought a mini Japanese Maple style plant and have it now for a couple of months. Within the last couple of days the leaves have suddenly dried up and are quite brittle. Would anyone have any suggestions about how I can save it? Apart from the Astillbe problem I have also posted about we also had an aphid problem on a rock rose which spread to another couple of plants, but that seems to have cleared up for the Summer and we haven't had any other major issues.

Thanks,
