The gardens in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia in the US are great to see.  There are over 90 acres of gardens ranging in size from large to small and everything in between.  There's a variety of kinds of gardens from kitchen gardens to cottage gardens, herb gardens, formal gardens and mazes just to name a few.  The garden buildings also are very interesting from formal brick ones to wooden cottage types.  It's on the James River and many of the gardens have river views and beyond.  Well worth a visit.       background
