I have had the great pleasure of visiting this beautiful garden on a number of occasions in the past and this year the garden revealed more of its beauty. Fifteen years ago it did not exist. It was a three acre site with a cottage, farmyard, farm buildings and a paddock. Today the farmyard has become the most beautiful parterre to one side and a rose garden to the other. The cottage has been transformed into a comfortable home and one of the farm buildings into an interesting guest pavilion. From the parterre you descend a few short steps onto the lawn area which slopes down to the large pond and stream which borders the garden along one side. The pond even has its own island which you access by a red chinese footbridge. Going on from here you go to the zen garden, a wonderful meditation space. On from here you pass a collection of stone Indian elephants as you head along the streamside path toward the woodland area. You will see Chestnut, Sorbus, Eucryphia, Tree Ferns and a prize Embothrium (Chilean Flame Tree) which took me by storm at the June weekend. Throughout the garden there are seating areas where you can relax awhile and take in your surroundings. There is also humour in this garden. A red clay hen nestling her clutch of eggs brought a smile to my face. This is a former Wicklow winner in the Irish Garden of the year competition and a member of the Wicklow Garden Festival Group. One to see if you get the chance. Check out my photo album if you want to see more of this garden.
