What a pity....

What a pity....

that Winter heliotrope is such a thug as the scent is so lovely. Just been walking Meg    and  along one lane there are long stretches of it , fresh green leaves and scented flowers.

Home from Bruno's talk on Exotics.

Area where the wall will go.

Area where the wall will go.

Well there is an area near my house where I needed some small trees and shrubs pulled out in order  to build a semi-circular wall. Today my friend the local JCB  chap with the huge Digger arrived and cleared  them for me and took the whole lot away!  And then I had a hard job getting him to take payment and all he would accept was €10 ; people are so good and generous.

The area where the stuff was taken out is to the right and not in the picture!!

Carex Frosted Curls

Carex Frosted Curls

Very mild day here. I spent a lot of time in the garden and can't get over how plants are growing. I mean deadheading Primulas in January...!  So many plants still growing like the Verbena bonariensis which is sprouting from the base.

Carex 'Frosted curls'  , I can't remember this being spoken about here but then it probably was. One of my favourite grasses so good for draping over a wall and survives even the bad Winters. Also self seeds readily.

Photo is from the web.

Another purchase

Clerodendron trichotomum

Clerodendron trichotomum

I saw Clerodendrum trichotomum  in Fota a couple of years ago and the Berries and calyxes were so amazing I had it on my wish list. So on Sunday the deed was done. I am sure some of you have this growing.

Johnstown purchase

Mukdenia karasuba

I had read , somewhere, about this plant  Mukdenia karasuba so ordered it from Johnstown . I hope it lives up to expectations ; related to Heuchera I think.  Anybody grow it?
