Possibly the largest Clematis flower in the World?

There is a story to this one. About 4 years ago when Clematis were around €7 I was in a garden centre and saw the name of this was Blue Ice, great I thought never heard of this one and went to the check out. Shock horror it was €17 !!  After big gulp I paid up. the label was very posh and said Raymond Evison , meant nothing to me.  So it was planted and grew and no flower. Next year it grew and produced one grotty flower. Same the following year . By this time I realised Raymond was a sort of King of the Clematis and most of his  plants only grew to 6 - 8 ft but had great flowers. .  Well this year it is amazing huge flowers with a faint blue tinge at edges and faint yellow stripe down middle , on the whole it looks white.  Pity some critter likes it too and there are some little holes in some of the flowers but it is lovely.  I dread to think what price his Clematis are now.

And the talllest Foxglove??

So funny I grew the seedlings and gave some to Liz , she got some lovely colours and all I have is pink!!  Luck of the draw.

Dalek

Dalek

Well it is like this. I have oceans of woody stuff to get rid of in my garden. Shredding does some but there are so many sticks and twigs in my compost  that I really need somewhere to burn them . There are no bonfires allowed here and a helicopter keeps an eye on us! So I investigated fire pits, not quite true because it all started like this; I decided to get a Chiminee sort of decorative and found this site called Outdoor living in Kilquade. I picked a Chiminee, free delivery, and ordered it. Not in stock so they offered me an alternative up to €150 dearer. I picked the one in the picture , it is huge you would fit 6 logs in it.  This ginormous box arrived and sat there until friendship came to the fore yet again. Margaret and her husband Stephen came up from Mallow and Stephen assembled it for me.  I have not used it yet as I want to get more hose that will reach down to it just in case. It now has a name that fits it  'Dalek' ! Though big it looks rather nice.

I have had major problems with getting the Californian poppy to grow, big failure with seeds I confess. But this one made it and is a wonderful burst of colour.

Holden Clough

They are not connected .  I love this Iris 'Holden clough' so thought I would show a picture.

Just home from a talk by June Blake and I think it was the most enjoyable I have ever been to. The time seemed to fly with all the pictures of her garden and unusual plants as well as many familiar ones. Her garden looks just magic and I must get to see it. It is so good to hear a real plantsperson talk. I have marked several plants on the list she gave and maybe one day they will be in my garden!!  And to add to the pleasure Gracedieu brought me a bag of plants so I am so lucky . And to further add to the pleasure as well as Paddy and Mary, Margaret aka Hosta and Bruno were also there and Mary Jo.

What I saw today.

Laburnocytisus adamii.

Laburnocytisus adamii.

Well leaving my petrol station which I have visited hundreds of times over the past 7 years I see this amazing small tree. Car is stopped and out I get and see a Laburnum with yellow and pink flowers. Shiver my timbers what is this I ask myself. Dash home to Google and there it is Laburnum adamii  a chimera between a laburnum and a cytisus aka broom. How in all my life I had never seen or heard of this before, talk about learning something new every day. I must have this tree so I beg my ier friends to tell me if you see it in a garden centre near you. So far have not traced it to anywhere near me. Does anybody have it in their garden? It was so weird but good weird. Picture from web.

Another 'Whatsit'

Whatsit

Whatsit

I showed this plant before it flowered and somebody was vewy wude about it and said it was a weed!!!!!  Now it is planted out and is very pretty indeed. The little flowers are white with faint pink veins and are double flowers with slightly notched petals. For me it is a keeper and I hope to get seeds and have more of it. It is in a sunny area and I think may do even better in shade, just a feeling. Have to go out now but will put up a clearer picture later tonight.

To Bean or not to Bean

This year the fields surrounding my house have been planted with Broad beans aka Fava beans. Looking at the pictures of their flowers it should make an interesting sight when they bloom. Picture from the web.
