I love the colour contrast here between the Achillea and Penstemon.

I hope you all had the same sunny day as dawned here in Cork today. Cold yes but to have it bright is so good and cheering-upping.  The Birds are very active today flitting  all over the place and devouring peanuts. Took Meg for a walk to the highest point of the Great Island  where the Water tower is. There are some fields up there great for dog walking as she can run around and have fun.  Home and raked up some leaves and took a few photos.  E.alata is just starting to colour, Liquidamber to my mind is the best shrub/tree for colour as it seems to have all the possible Autumn colours, while Cotinus has almost lost it's leaves but the red with the sun shining through is very striking.

Meeting a friend for lunch in Ballyseedy tomorrow and hope to find a Kris Kindle for Johnstown.

 Geranium bohemicum Blue Orchid

There sometimes comes along a plant that  just behaves itself so well it reminds me of  the good boy/girl at school , all clean and shining and sitting upright at their desks , certainly not Scrubber!!

Though it may be called a hardy perennial  in my experience that is not so.  I grow it as an annual and it produces so many seeds that a constant supply is assured.  And of course the seeds are well behaved too , germinate easily and grow into  more well behaved  children.  Yes indeed Sr. Josephine would have no trouble with these!

Today was lovely  in my part of Cork , blue skies and not too cold.  So I decided to take Meg doggie over to Fota arboretum for a walk.I am so lucky that it is only a 5 minute drive from my house.  So off we went  me with a few reservations  as previous visits had  ended with me being dragged around by Meg who scented the red Squirrels that fortunately reside there.  She is normally very good on the lead but those Squirrels really get to her!  Anyway  we were heading towards the Formal gardens  when one of the groundstaff who was up on a scaffold cutting a Yew hedge came down and told me to be very careful as there were 3 stray dogs loose in the Arboretum and they might gang up on Meg!!!! So having thanked him we continued on our way . I had actually gone back to get my camera and was going to put up some pictures of Fota in it’s Autumn glory.   I forgot how hard it would be to hold Meg with my left hand and the camera in my right and actually take pictures.  So I took two pics and then the Camera stopped working.  The zoom refused to move!!!  ( I later found I had , by mistake, moved a setting , all is well now I am home!!)  It was a pity as the colours were great and the borders still had loads of colour.  The rose garden was still full of colour and it was  glowing.  There was nobody else there and  we had it all for ourselves, except for the dogs who thankfully failed to appear.  But then  Meg took off and it took two hands to hold the lead , and yes from the undergrowth a red squirrel scurried  across the grass.  It seemed like a good time to come home and have a cuppa.  One of the photos I managed to get I could not remember the name of the plant so please ID it for me. It grows to a loose bush with trumpet shaped violet flowers.  I  hope you all enjoyed such a lovely day.
