Raised beds installed.

Raised beds installed.

But I confess not by me!  I feel awful I can't recall who posted about these but thank you.

Today was the first day I spent actually gardening. Dressed in three layer of leg coverings and furry boots and gloves, not furry, I headed forth not knowing where to start.  I cut down my giant Melianthus as it had got too sprawly all over the place. Still have to get rid of the branches.  Loads of bramble cutting as ever, weeding and transplanting.  Have Sweet pea ready to go out when the weather gets better but must get peas and scarlet runners for the new raised beds. Seedlings are doing ok I got some of a plant I grew some years ago. It is the Texas Bluebonnet   quite like a Lupin and the state flower of Texas. Sowed them much too late so though the seedlings are fine it may be too much to expect flowers. Worth a try. So delighted to have got going at last. Sorry for those of you under snow , may it vanish soon.

My travels , and a Primula!

Well last Thursday I headed to Dublin in torrential rain. About 20 miles from Dublin I sort of outdrove the downpour which was now following me and would catch up a few hours later. I intended catching up with some friends of many years and a new valued one in the form of Fran.  Also I carried a list of plants I wanted to get in Mount Venus for myself and  a friend.  You will guess by now that these plans did not work out. On Friday when I was going to see Fran the torrents were flooding the area he lives so a visit was not possible; so near and yet so far and what a pity to miss seeing him and his garden. Mount Venus also had to be cancelled. It was a good way from Dalkey where I was staying and being unsure of the route and especially in that weather reluctantly I decided not to go. As my other 'dates' were near where I was staying with a friend I managed to meet up with them which was terrific. Also I visited a nearby Garden centre where I spotted this most amazing Primula never seen the like. Promise I will tell you where I got it later !!!!  Must catch up on what you all have been chatting about over the past days. See you soon:))

Behind the yellow wall.

When I decided to get the yellow wall built I forgot all the extra space I would get and honestly did not want!  That whole area was built on rubble from a building I had demolished when I came here so the ground was dreadful. Small trees and brambles had found a happy home but now the time had come when it had to be covered with something. It is like digging into a quarry! Not interesting rocks like those of Scrubbers but lumps of concrete and wood. Any way I had the trees removed and the ''''soil'''' tossed around a bit ! I have planted Vinca, Geraniums, Daffodils, Bluebells, Cardamine, and anything I think may have a hope of finding some nutrition. I covered it with Tony's manure and am keeping my fingers crossed. The two photographs show part of the area from different angles.

You may recall I was going to bid on a garden seat and a statue. Well the garden seats went for €650  each !! The statue went for €250 . Needless to say neither are coming to live here! I was not at the auction but someone else was bidding for me.
