Border at front of house (in the sunshine) 25th August

Ist'nt it funny how sometimes you look at a photo of yoru garden and you think  that looks pretty good but yet when you see it in reality it is not nearly as glorious!! Well this is the case with the picture below just the right angle and the sun shine such a rare commodity the last few weeks. I have added this (you can see it clearer) along with a few more photos in to my July August album.

Hot bed in Farmleigh walled garden

Hot bed in Farmleigh walled garden

It was a beautiful day on Sunday and we had a great time (Emma my 8 year old came with me as she does on most of my gardening trips) I got loads of plants some of which I can't pronounce but that is the idea of the plant sale to pick up things that I can not get locally and give them a go included are Monarda - Cambridge Scarlet , Liatris Spicata (as featured on Rachel's journal recently) these were both on my wish list. Lobelia vedrariensis, Aster lateriflorus, Sisyrinchium,Thalictrum Delayaysi, a couple of Squirrel tail grasses and a couple of little alpines for my new bed  I got a couple of other small ones but I need to look them up, so well chuffed now I need to get them all in!!

We had a walk through the walled gardens which looked great one of the hot beds looked really good full of sun flowers, rudbeckia, canna lilies geum etc  hot hot hot lovely!! We picniced on the grass in front of Farmleigh House eating totally unhealthy food lapping up the sun. Reluctantly we left about 5 for the drive home perfect day!!

Weekend Project

New Gravel bed

New Gravel bed

We have a small flower bed beside our patio which never really got much attention and we were never really happy with it so this weekend gone by I decided that it was time to sort it out - I Decided to make a gravel bed out of it and plant it up with mainly alpines - I stared at 9.00 AM on Saturday mornning and apart from feeding the children did not stop until saturday evening, Unfortunately I had to go away yesteryday with the kids but when I came home last night the fairies had laid the remainer of the stones (Thanks Gerry!!). I am pleased with result although it will take a bit of time for the plants to become established - put up a few pics to show before and after

Ligularia

Ligularia

This ligularia was planted in last year and has done really well this year - I love the colour and shape of the leaves - It looked good against the astrantia and a deep pink primula earlier in the year and now the bright yellow flower adds a real spash of colour to the border
