Blue Aquiligea

Blue Aquiligea

Hi Linda this is a close up of the Aquiligea. I got it in Woodies last year for some early colour in the cottage garden. I have lots of seedlings near this plant I could pot up & keep for you but there is no guaranee that they will come true as you know. I think it looks a bit like one of the ones you posted the other day maybe just a bit bluer?

Everything looking fresh

Some of you may recall me telling you about a visit to Airfield last Summer just before it closed. The headgardener Annemarie gave me some seed of poppies to set which I duly did. These are the first of them to flower fantastic blooms in pinks and Red.

Nice to be home

Great to be home after my operation, stiff and sore but hopefully will get stronger and stronger every day. Wow what growth in the garden, lots of work to be done but will have to wait in the meantime just enjoying the sunshine and the blooms.

I know Margaret featured this a few weeks back, shows how far behind we are in Cavan I   like the glossy foliage on this, it has a nice smell too but you have to get down close to have a sniff. It's official title is "Similicana Racemosa"

Syneiles Tagawae

Syneiles Tagawae

My Mam, Sister and I always make a
point of going to the rare plant sale the second Sunday in May every year. Due
to the situation with my back I will not be going this year. GuttedL

Not one to give in easily I sent
an order through to Mount Venus however they do not deliver and it was going to
cost too much to have collected.

However every cloud has a silver
lining I had an appointment with a surgeon on Wednesday so we took the opportunity
when in Dublin to collect the plants. I was not able to spend much time looking
around but picked up a few impulse plants over and above the original list
which had been plotted and planned for weeks.

Below is a list of what I got
those marked with Impulse are plants that I do not know much or anything about
and would appreciate any information any of you might have on those plants

Hakonechloa Macra Aureola

Uvularia grandeflora pallida

Mattecchia Struthiopteris
chinochloa Rubra

Miscanthus Herman

Geranium  Rozanne ( Already
have a few of these but want to build up my stock)

Tiarella cordifolia moorgruen

Chrysosplenium
davidanum

Dicentra spectabilis alba

Anemone Nemorosa Vestal

Caciilla delphinilfolla- Impulse - Think the label may be wrong on this one as I can't
find on Google

Polygonatum Verticillatum

Peltoboykinia Watanabel - Impulse

saxifraga rufescens

Filipndula White

Euphorbia Blackbird

Syneiles Tagawae -  Impulse

As for the back I am having surgery next Friday to have the
part of the disc removed that is causing all the pain, so this time next week I
could be out in my garden pottering away ( I am joking J) but hopefully it will
not be too much longer .

To anyone going to the sale in Drogheda have a great time
and looking forward to hearing about all the plants purchased and those you
wish you had not left behind, there is always one or two!!.

Seed sowing the ups and Downs

Seed sowing

Seed sowing

The Anguish and Joy of seed sowing

The only gardening that I have been able to do over the past
number of weeks is seed sowing .

It, struck me what an uncertain business it is.

Am I using the correct seed compost?

Is the seed compost damp enough ?

Is the compost too damp ?

Is the tray deep enough ?

Is the tray too deep ?

Have I planted the seed deep enough?

Have I planted the seed too deep ?

Do I cover the seed with, vermiculite,  compost , gravel  or at all?

D o the seeds need heat ?

Have I given the seeds too much heat?

Do I Water from the top ?

Do I water from the bottom?

Am I watering the seeds too little?

Am I watering the seeds too much?

But despite all the anxiety and days (sometimes weeks) of
close scrutiny, when you see those little green shoots above the compost what a
moment of sheer joy and Bliss.
