A case of benefitting from a supplier's error.  These came with a bulb order in mistake for white muscari; when I phoned the supplier, the muscari were dispatched immediately and I was allowed to keep the scillas.  The muscari flower later and are nice enough though, if I had to choose between them, the scillas would definitely win.

I love their ice blue colour.  The photo doesn't do them justice as the wind was playing havoc when I snapped them.  Their full name is quite a mouthful!

Better than expected

Harvington's hellebore

Harvington's hellebore

The Harvington's double red hellebore that I posted about recently, which was putting out different coloured shoots on the same plant, has come into full flower now.  I'm relieved to see the 'rogue' stems with bright green leaves have produced double flowers. They are more deep pink than red but I'm happy enough with that as the whole plant looks nice.

One stem has some bright green leaves and some deep green/bronze leaves as on the 'original' plant bought last year.  I can only assume that the plant is partially reverting to its parentage ... would that be likely?

Thank you, Krista

Krista's double hellebore

Krista's double hellebore

Kristina gave me this double hellebore at Johnstown, already in bud.  The first flower opened a couple of days ago and it's so pretty, with lovely picotee edging.

I'm thrilled with it, thanks so much Krista.

Over the coming months, I will try to remember to post photos of other plants received at Johnstown as they blossom, with thanks to all you generous donors.

Just for comparison, this is what mine looks like Fran, photo taken yesterday.

Irises and hellebore

Between the bouts of stormy wet weather we had a lovely morning today, so I went for a much needed walk and when I got back just had time to take a few photos of flowers in the garden.

Iris 'Katherine Hodgins' (much loved by us all) is opening more flowers each day now and iris 'Harmony' has popped out too.  I never grew iris reticulatas until making the new border last year and can't think why I overlooked them for so long, as they are so pretty.

The "proper" flowers on the bi-coloured hellebore that I posted about last week have now opened ... will have to wait a few days more before we see what the rogue shoots produce.
