Early evening glow

Early evening glow

I took this photo at about 6.30 pm a few days ago with no special camera settings and was surprised when it came up on screen looking like the garden was washed with a pinky glow.

Just sums up how lovely September has been.

The flowers on Schizostylis (now Hesperantha) coccinea 'Mrs Hegarty', which recently came to my garden as a pressie, have opened and I really like its delicate shade of pink which is almost white.  I've planted it just inside the front gatepost where it will lean out and give passers-by some nice flowers to enjoy.

Thank you Jurgita, I'm delighted with it!

Visit to Jurgita's (Hoey's)

Yesterday Clare and I went to Avoca to deliver some promised plants to Jurgita for her new pond area.  Now when Jurgita plans a project, she sure thinks big and in a year or two this pond will look amazing!  She explained that the water level had gone down, though it was filling again while we were there and a couple of wagtails were playing beside the inflow.

We had a lovely tour of her garden and met her latest acquisition, Marbles the sheep (so when sheep goes missing you've lost your marbles!).  We enjoyed Jurgita's usual big smile and warm welcome, soup and salad, tea and cake, meeting her children again and all in all a lovely afternoon.

Thanks so much Jurgita for a lovely visit.

This is one from Fran's bulb winnings which he generously shared around, just opening now as they were planted late and moved around during the revamp.  It really brightened up a misty day yesterday.

Many thanks Fran ... PS also saw a gorgeous deep purple one in Clare's!

'Red Undies' for Myrtle

Our broadband was down for three days and I felt like a limb was severed! It's nice to be back.

Myrtle, here are the photos I promised you of Begonia 'Red Undies'.  This is in a pot, in its second year, and as you can see gets to a good size.  The flowers are like those of bedding begonias, carried in sprays.  The plant is supposed to be hardy but I treat it as semi-hardy and take into the cold greenhouse for winter.  It should be fine to overwinter in your cold-frame.

It surprised me by seeding around; I hope the baby succeeds for you.

Early September in the garden

On Gardeners' World last Friday, Monty said he thought autumn was coming in earlier this year and I have noticed many plants going over sooner than expected, but there is still some flower colour and lots to enjoy in the garden.

Here are a few photos from the weekend.  The weather forecast is good for this week too, so it will be nice to get out into the garden whenever we can.

I'm a bit late aren't I?  I didn't take many photos in the garden this August, as I was busy with other things and the weather wasn't that kind.  However, the album is up now if you want to take a look.

Fuchsia genii and Ceratostigma willmottianum are stalwarts at this time of year.

Hope you are all enjoying your gardens now that weather has picked up again.
