New additions to front garden

I am gradually adding plants to our small front garden since the revamp last summer.  These two which were planted last autumn are flowering now:

Helleborus 'Winter Moonbeam' ... chosen mainly for the foliage but I like the flowers too.  It looks similar to one of the hellebores in Jackie's new flower border.

Hamamelis mollis ... I've wanted a hamamelis for a while and am pleased with my choice now that I see it in flower.  Mind you, it will be a long time before it gets to a decent size!  The area around it also needs tidying to show it off better.

Plant ID please

I was looking back at the photos of our visit to Lambs Cross garden last July and wonder if any of you experts can identify this lovely plant which was growing in a pot in the greenhouse there.  It has hibiscus-like flowers but is a different plant.

The owner did tell us the name, which she said was hard to pronounce, but of course I quickly forgot it!

On a wild stormy day like today, Clare's idea of posting photos from our garden visits is very welcome.  Here are three from the many visits of 2014 we enjoyed in all that lovely sunshine.  Bodnant was the highlight of course, but I have chosen other photos this time.  Wherever we went, the company of gardening friends is what made the visits special for me.

The third photo is from Lamb's Cross garden in Sandyford, possibly the most beautiful private garden I've seen so far (apart from those of garden.iers of course!) and the owner so welcoming and friendly.  Thank you, Mary & Paddy, for alerting us to this lovely garden.

So, roll on 2015 and lots more visits we hope ...

Johnstown 2015 ... still smiling

I'm sitting by the fire in the warm afterglow of our get-together at Johnstown today.  It was great to meet old friends and new over a meal, catch up on gardening chat, swap plants and seeds, take part in the raffle and kris kindle, engage in a little retail therapy and just enjoy a fabulous day out among all you wonderful people who make up garden.ie .  It was nice to have Gerry Daly with us again this year too.

I've put up a small album.  Had to delete a good few of my photos as they came out blurry; it must have been the excitement of day that made my hand shake!

Thanks to everyone who travelled to be there and especially to Hazel for organising another hugely successful get-together for us and a great way to start off the gardening year.

This is my first time growing an amaryllis and I've been spellbound watching it grow over recent weeks and really pleased now that it has flowered.

Not bad for €3.50 in Lidl!  Now just to learn how to care for it so it might flower again next year.

Clara has suggested we post a summer photo or two from our gardens to cheer us up now that the site can accept photos again, so here are a couple from my garden taken in sunny July 2014.

And for contrast, the spooky echium in its shroud of fleece during the hard frost of a few nights ago.  The shroud came off pretty quickly, I'm glad to say.
