A few looking good now

End of August, how did it come around so soon?  There is still quite a lot of colour to enjoy in the garden: roses in their second flush, autumn berries and leaf colour starting, and many perennials and a few annuals still holding up well.

These photos were taken a few days ago: Penstemon 'Hidcote Pink', mixed annuals, and Helenium 'Sahin's Early Flowerer' which I had wanted for a while and got as a very small plant at a plant fair in April.  Just a few flowers on it this year; I'm looking forward to it bulking up over time.

A few more to tempt you, Hazel and others; photos taken in the Botanic Gardens earlier this week.

Good thing I wasn't in a garden centre; I could be tempted myself!

Sorry, photos taken with my phone; I did have it on portrait lock but they'e still sideways.

Advancing seasons

We have all noticed how our plants came into flower so much earlier through spring and summer this year with the mild weather, and now autumn colour seems to be arriving earlier too.

These almost identical photos are from the end of September 2015 and today.  Two years ago the canna was only coming into flower while this year the first flowering has finished.  The pyracantha has been in berry for the past fortnight and already the wood pigeons and bullfinches have eaten a good many of them.

Album overload

Album overload

Album overload

Apologies for inflicting so many albums on you all at once.  I was looking over my garden photos from this year and realised I hadn't posted any albums since late winter, probably because of the difficulties experienced earlier in putting up albums.

I do like to keep a record of the garden through the year, so here you have it, March through August!

A few photos this afternoon

With the nice weather this week, I'm trying to catch up on some outside painting so no gardening; but I did take a few photos late this afternoon.

Eucomis bicolour has put up two spikes this year.  I do like this plant and am not sure whether it will bulk up any more as it's in a pot.  The other photos are of annuals grown from seed and an end-on view of the wavy bed with Diascia personata still going strong.

Hope you're all enjoying your gardens; weather may break tomorrow.

Daylily companions

These two Hemerocallis chose their own companions by leaning over a bit from where I planted them.

It may seem an awful admission to some of you but I prefer daylilies to lilies ... though I do have a soft spot for Lilium regale.

I haven't done much gardening lately, busy with other matters and can't believe it's August already.  Hope you are all enjoying your gardens.
