Cordyline Surprise

Cordyline By Three

Cordyline By Three

From the Ashes the Phoenix will rise!

Received a pleasant surprise today as I pruned and tidied up the back garden. Under the rotted stump of a once proud Cordyline I discovered three nice 18" baby Cordylines.

When I dug them out they even had a nice root stock so they are now potted up in a sheltered area awaiting the Spring. I wonder will they grow after my hurried potting up? Time will tell and isnt that the joy of gardening.

Roses & Pears

I put in just two Floribundas today, one was a Margaret Merrill and number 2 was a white rose beginning with "K" sounding exotic. Me and names !!

I think I have room for one more in this bed where I removed a 40 year old shrub that was past its sell by date!

Should I hard prune these now down to soil level or leave as bought I wonder??

While it may not look a huge undertaking I was three days removing the shrub and still have the prunings to dispose of and the thorns in finger too.

The pears are plentiful but rock hard. One suggestion was to place them in cold storage (fridge) for a week and then remove and allow to ripen. These ones I've placed on the top shelf of the plastic Aldi Glasshouse outdoors. I wonder which will ripen first.

Well I treated the Nostoc with good old Aldi Washing Powder 3 days ago, Bio & Non Bio just to be sure. The Nostoc now looks "shaken" and has changed to an angry redish colour. I wonder is it dead, dying or just angry??

Time will tell.

Maybe someone knows where I might get Apples ID? I have these eaters in my orchard for years but never got a name for them. Just the one old small tree. Are they Irish, Old Irish, Imports etc etc. I have never come across them in shops or gardens elsewhere. I hope to get them grafted in April as I failed last Sept. "Graft in April Bud in May" I believe. Thanks everyone.
