Conker Fun

Conker Fun

In my youth these guys held endless possibilities . Collected them annually in their hundreds on the family farm . The things we made with them. The fights we had pelting each other with them. Bringing them to school. oh yes we also had conker fights. And sometimes i even grew little chestnut trees too. Do any of today's children enjoy them anymore? Shame if they don't.

I discarded what I thought were a few deadheaded Calendula flowers along the road opposite my entrance some weeks ago. It looks as if I will have some roadside gardening to do next Spring. Still it will add a show of colour dor the passing motorists ....

Dahlia storage advice

The sun appeared out, the rain stopped and like a good bee I started a little garden tidying among the beds without distraction. Now I noticed some Dahlias that appeared to ask for overwintering indoors. I relented and dug up some, others were in pots and tubs etc. I presume you clean off the tubers for storage indoors after drying first? Should I break the tubers apart or leave in clumps as they came out of the ground? do I store them in dry compost ? The ones in containers can I leave and just place them indoors
