Arrived home to find that my neighbor had called and left me loads of Willow cuttings in three lovely very different colors. When I finished cutting the whips I had over 40 for planting so I enjoyed some digging and planting for two hours. My neighbor who happens to be a horse vet and Swedish too intends weaving shortly. She is so talented with her hands and despite four young children has lots on the go. I was admiring the lovely Orange and Purple willow beds she had some weeks ago and as she was harvesting this week she presented me with these. Pity we cannot post photo though !

The three ladies in my life decided on a days shopping which I wriggled out of as the day was sunny. Another apple tree got it's haircut and a little shape back. Hard to know when to stop. Two more to go...meanwhile the graft was uncovered and appears to be healing over, Peter asked me recently about it. Now I wonder do I re seal  or leave open ? Amazing what can be done without any special equipment apart from duct tape !!

Well today I couldn't find excuses not to put up the outside lights and Santa and Frosty. It involved climbing and mending some electrics as usual ! Santa required a new connection but frosty was ok after his 11 months off . The neighbors passed as I was up the cherry tree on the front lawn stringing the light around it. The day I no longer feel up to this is the day I officially declare myself OLD. Discovered a tear in my cold house roof then which was declared an emergency and immediate fix. Some of the plants inside were very dried out so required a little H2O to sustain them. Back to the lighting and all now working TG. Kody the new dog was very taken aback when he discovered two strangers in his lawn!! Lots of barking and growling. Eventually got pruning another apple tree and managed a second one before dark. I removed the wrapping from the apple graft I grafted last April and its healing nicely . I have left it uncovered so time will tell. Still haven't planted the new dogwood. Trying to decide where its best suited. I took three cuttings from it as it had one low down branch and I hear they are easy to propagate this way. We have to recreate a family photo shortly using the garden Santa and frosty with the two girls and Mum. Found an old photo from when they believed !! Santa and Frosty haven't changed a bit .......

Botanic Gardens Beware

Alba Siritica

Alba Siritica

I decided to kill two hours this morning in the Botantic Gardens and Glasnevin cemetery . Parked as I normally do at the Gardens and noticed a new pay station on the way in !

Mnmmm I thought continuing on my merry way. First stop a coffee and small slice of Brack after the drive up from Tipp. Service was slow despite plenty of staff. €7.50 please the nice lady asked !!! Wow I thought that's steep and as I rooted for more change I asked how much is coffee ? Oh wait you only have one coffee she suddenly noticed and proceeded to refund me €2. Anyhow toured the grounds enjoying the peace and quiet and then crossed into Glasnevin Cemetary for a wander. Daughter then texted to say she would be finished in College at 1230. Time for another quick cuppa to warm the bones before leaving thought I. Proceeded to pay station at 1215 and was disgusted to see that parking is now double what it used to be And in the middle of winter. Last summer I spent half a day there for €2! Rant over and on way home stopped at the Aboretum for a pick me up , dinner and a nice dogwood the color I couldn't resist

These are my forty year old Hypericums to which I contribute very little each year apart from a trim or two. Iam now wondering about a more severe pruning to almost ground level ? Would they benefit from it ? They flower almost all year round apart from the winter months . Anyone with similar large shrubs
